The Thermen am Viehmarkt are the remains of a large Roman bath complex located beneath Trier’s modern Viehmarkt square. Built in the 2nd century AD, the baths once served as a central social and wellness hub in ancient Augusta Treverorum. Archaeologists discovered the site during construction work in the 1980s, revealing well-preserved walls, heating systems, and water channels.
To protect the ruins, an impressive glass structure was built around them, allowing visitors to descend into the archaeological area while still seeing the vibrant life of the city above. Today, the Thermen am Viehmarkt offer a fascinating journey into Trier’s Roman past and showcase the city’s unique blend of ancient history and modern urban life.
